What does Mother Hen™ do?
Mother Hen™ continuously monitors your coop’s doors and environment, then delivers instant,
triple-redundant alerts if anything threatens your flock — all without ever touching or controlling your
doors.
1. Monitors Every Critical Door — 24/7
- Chicken Door (Automatic — yours, not ours)
Mother Hen attaches to the vertically-opening automatic chicken door you already own and reads its position to detect:
- Open/closed state
- Doors that didn’t move on schedule
- Timing failures (e.g., opens too late, closes too early)
Mother Hen does not include or sell a door, motor, limit switch, or door plate. It watches the door you already have.
- Every Other Opening You Care About
Each equipped with a BTS-MP1 opening + temperature sensor — mounted on a human access door, window, nest box lid, hatch, or run gate — detecting:
- Opening left ajar
- Forgotten latch after chores
- Kids or visitors leaving it open
2. Applies Smart Sunrise/Sunset Logic
Using your coop’s GPS coordinates (set once during setup), Mother Hen™ calculates real-time
sunrise and sunset daily.
- Expects chicken door to open within 30 minutes before sunrise
- Expects it to close within 30 minutes after sunset
- Triggers alerts if timing is off — even if your auto-door’s clock fails
3. Watches Coop Temperature
The BTS-MP1 opening + temperature sensor measures internal coop temperature every
few minutes.
- Frost alert at 32°F (0°C) → frostbite risk
- Heat alert at 85°F (29°C) → heat stress
- Custom thresholds available in the customer portal
4. Delivers Triple-Redundancy Alerts

Works With the Door You Already Have
- Monitor-only by design. Mother Hen never opens or closes your chicken door — it watches the vertically-opening automatic door you already own and alerts you if anything is wrong.
- No proprietary hardware lock-in. We do not sell a door, motor, limit switch, or door plate.
- One 110V outlet at the coop powers the Controller. Any source (grid, solar with inverter, generator) is fine.
- No daily portal use required. SMS is the primary notification channel; the customer portal at mother-hen.com is for setup, history, and tweaks — not daily checking.
